PDF Expert on iPad crashing problem. Thread starter nerdypeturdy Start date May 22, This is my first time posting on this forum. I am having an issue with PDF expert. I use it a lot for annotations on PDFs keeping notes. Lately, it has been crashing freezing until I quit out of it , and when I reopen all my annotations are lost.

Has anyone had this problem? Or know of what could be causing it? If you have not done so, try these usual fixes. When you have problems with an app it\’s a good idea to clear it from RAM. Tap and hold on any icon in the bar until they jiggle, then tap the minus sign on the problem app. This will remove it from RAM and insure a clean start the next time you launch the app. If that does not work try a restart, Restart: Hold down the power button until the power off slider appears.

Slide it off. When the iPad finishes shutting down, hold down the power button again until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends you restart the iPad at least once a month. Reset: Hold down the power and home buttons until the Apple logo appears. The iPad will reboot.

This usually takes a bit longer than a restart. These steps do not work. These are free apps, but will commence to launch, then stop in the process and quit without completely launching. I\’m not sure why, but I suspect it was the mobilesubstrate update from Cydia that I installed before all of these problems. I can\’t help much with jailbreak related problems. No experience. The only thing can suggest is deinstalling, one at a time, those tweaks that you added at about the same time as the problem occurred.

Hi, I\’ve created a PDF that includes numeric fields. Once users enter numbers, the total is automatically calculated and inserted in a new field. This action works perfectly when the PDF is opened in Windows. However when the PDF is opened on an iPad the total does not calculate or display. Is there a fix for this? Melissa Hoffman. The latest version of Adobe Reader for iOS has rather limited support for JavaScript, which is how automatic calculations are implemented.

The built-in methods should work, but if you\’ve created a custom calculation script, it may need to be rewritten so it works with the limited support.

If you post the script you\’re using, we may be able to suggest changes you can make so it\’s compatible. If you instead are using one of the built-in methods, please provide more details about how you\’ve set up the calculation. I\’ve looked at over 30 PDF viewers for the iPad and personally tested 5 of them. I only tested 5 because these were the only ones that I thought might come close to implementing some kind of forms functionality.

Sadly, there are only three that actually recognize form fields, and two of them use the same SDK, so really, there are only two viewers that recognize form fields. Most of the other viewers are very simplified, they don\’t render even mildly complex page content or annotations correctly. Most are also for a special purpose, usually something to do with commenting, although some do handle forms with a variation of the typwriter tool.

Adobe Reader handles basic calculations pretty well, but not much more. It\’s easy to have a form that overtaxes it. It implements much more of the Acrobat JavaScript model and has great form distribution and submission features. It is far and away the best PDF forms tool for the iPad. Adobe Reader is way better at rendering Page content and annotations. PDF Expert supports all the most comon comment annotations, but punts on rendering some annotaitons by giving them default appearances or none at all, and falls down with complex content.
